Statistics service registers 0.2% deflation in August in Russia
MOSCOW, Sep 5 (PRIME) -- The Federal State Statistics Service has registered a 0.2% deflation in August, the first since September 2017, thanks to seasonally lower food prices, the service said in a statement on Thursday.
Prices for consumer goods and services fell by 0.1–0.8% in 62 regions of Russia, while in nine regions the prices increased.
Food prices shrank by 1% in the month. Prices for fruit and vegetables fell in the majority of Russia, and in 45 regions of the country prices contracted by 10% and more.
Prices for tomatoes contracted by 24.9%, for potatoes by 22.4%, for carrots by 22.2%, for onions by 20.7%, for beetroot by 16.7%, for grapes by 165, and for carrots by 12.1%. At the same time, prices for oranges rose 2.8% and for garlic 1.8%.
